An Inlay or an Onlay is often the approach taken when a tooth needs extra support and is not damaged significantly enough to require a Crown. When either an Inlay or an Onlay is recommended, extensive tooth preparation is unnecessary.
An Inlay fits within the corners (cusps) of the natural tooth, whereas an Onlay covers the entire upper tooth surface area, including the cusps. An Onlay is usually selected when there is more tooth damage present and more tooth support needed. Both Inlays and Onlays are bonded to the tooth and become a permanent part of it.
If you need an Inlay or Onlay, it will be custom-made for you in our laboratory. You can choose resin, gold, or porcelain for your restoration.
At Pear Tree Dental Practice, we will always discuss specific treatment plans with you before beginning the work.
